Here we talk about why we think Clubhouse is worth the hype, and how it can help your business.
Clubhouse is a new social media app – kind of like a cross between a live podcast and LinkedIn. It is live audio-only content, currently only available for iOS and it definitely has our attention – for so many reasons!
How Clubhouse works
Currently, Clubhouse is invite-only (hit us up if you want an invite!). There is definitely a bit of fomo about this new platform, but how does it work? Well, once you have an invite, you will see a bunch of ‘rooms’ which you can drop into at any time unless they are full (they’re capped at 5,000 participants). In each room you can listen to the live chat and direct questions to the moderators or speakers who are on ‘the stage’ – just like an interesting dinner party conversation. But the most exciting thing about it is the potential for networking.
Why we think Clubhouse is worth the hype
Since it’s invite-only, it really is like a ‘club’ and the networking opportunities are juicy. The tech is pretty amazing, too. Everything’s so clear and seamless, it’s like you’re in the same room as the other participants.
If you are looking to increase your credibility, or to position yourself as the expert in your field, this is an awesome place to do just that. It will also give you access to people who would like to be involved in this platform (you can invite anyone to be on ‘the stage’ with you), as it has such amazing street cred. Everyone wants in on this new app, even Elon Musk appeared on Clubhouse last week.
The uptake has been really strong in America and Australia, particularly in the tech and start-up sectors, but we can see this expanding to other regions and sectors fast.
How do you ensure you utilise Clubhouse to its full potential?
Like any social media, you need to be active on it. Jump in and listen in to a few rooms and don’t be scared to ask the panelists questions. When you do speak, make sure you add value to the conversation to get the attention of the audience and other speakers (so they can invite you back to ‘the stage’).
Be sure to optimise your Clubhouse profile, include a clear call to action in your profile and ensure it is linked to your Instagram account, as people will DM you through Instagram to connect. Make sure the first three lines in your bio are optimised, because this is the first thing followers can see and it’ll give them a reason to visit your profile. Use something that is interesting, drives their attention and reflects your credibility.
Finally, the real gold for Clubhouse is to become a moderator and make some real connections with other thought leaders in your industry. Anyone who is interested in marketing, media, tech, start-ups and generally connecting with like-minded forward-thinking entrepreneurs is already in Clubhouse. And they are gaining so much traction and real connections, so it’s a great place to be right now!
